The Angara-1.2 launch vehicle launched the Cosmos-2560 satellite into orbit on October 16. The device is included in the catalog of space objects.
The Russian military satellite Kosmos-2560, launched in October of this year, entered the Earth’s atmosphere on December 10. This was announced by a scientist from the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, Jonathan McDowell in Twitter.
“The Russian military launched the Kosmos-2560 satellite into space in October, and it returned to the Earth’s atmosphere on December 10 at 04.54 hours (Kyiv time) in Guam. Like the previous satellite in this series, it could not rise into orbit,” he wrote.
He later added: “It appears that the lack of orbital change for these two missions was intentional, although it is somewhat surprising.”
In turn, Interfax reported that on October 16, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the launch of the Angara-1.2 launch vehicle. He launched the Kosmos-2560 satellite into orbit. The device is included in the catalog of space objects.
McDowell did not explain exactly how the previous satellite launched by the Russians failed. Perhaps we are talking about the Cosmos-2555 satellite, which also lasted about two months. At the same time, the letter Z in the colors of St. George ribbon is applied to the satellite – a symbol of the aggressive war between the Russian Federation and Ukraine.
Recall that in November Russia launched two military satellites from the Plesetsk cosmodrome.
