Elon Musk made a promise to your company Neuralink: He wants to implant his first brain chip in humans within 6 months.
In accordance with bloombergthe company has announced its intention to begin clinical trials in 2023 if the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) grants approval.
What Neuralink is looking for
Neuralink Musk’s initiative to create a coin-sized device that can connect the brain to computers.
The clinical goal is to try to help patients with neurological disorders function and improve their lives. But the goals don’t stop there, as they even want it to be used for fun or for activities like changing songs, sending email, or searching the web with their thoughts.
“We have submitted, I think, most of our documentation to the FDA, and we think that probably in about six months we will be able to get our first Neuralink in a person,” he said at the presentation of the company.
The first ambitious test, scheduled to take place in 6 months, will aim to restore the sight of people born blind. “Even in the case of people who could never see, who were born blind, we think we can restore their vision because the visual cortex still exists. We are confident that we can make them see,” he said.
Monkey writes with his mind
To show progress Neuralink, Elon Musk it depicted a monkey writing with “mind”.
An animal with an implanted chip may move the screen cursor over its implant in an attempt to ask for fruit.
Recall that earlier Neuralink showed monkeys playing pong with the same procedure.
“We’re already kind of cyborgs, because computers and phones are extensions of ourselves,” Musk said.
