Researchers suggest that the minerals may hold important clues about how asteroids formed.

Scientists have discovered two minerals that have never been found on Earth. They were discovered inside a massive meteorite that landed in Somalia. This is reported by Live Science.

In particular, two completely new minerals were discovered inside a very large El Ali meteorite, weighing about 17 tons. Experts have named the minerals Elilat after the meteorite and Elkinstantonite from Lindy Elkins-Tanton, director of the Arizona State University Interplanetary Initiative and principal investigator on NASA’s upcoming Psyche mission, which will send a probe to explore the asteroid that rich in minerals.

The researchers classified El Ali as a complex meteorite Iron IAB – a type composed of meteoric iron with small pieces of silicates. Experts also plan to continue studying meteorites to understand the conditions under which the asteroid itself was formed.

Earlier it was reported that the NASA spacecraft on Mars recorded the fall of two of the largest meteorites.
