The 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar is about to begin and the controversy continues, now over the treatment of journalists who cover football’s biggest event.
The Danish channel TV2 broadcast live from the tourist area of Doha, the capital Qatarwhen the connection was interrupted by private security.
Journalist Rasmus Tantold complains to the soldiers who have arrived in a golf cart to thwart him.
“Sir. You invited everyone to come here. Why can’t we record? This is a public place,” he said.
He then shows his accredited press ID to Qatar World Cup 2022. However, the man continues to threaten to destroy the recording equipment.
The video was posted on Twitter Rasmus Tantoldt himself, with most users criticizing the actions of the guards, although some criticized the journalist for “not obtaining the necessary permissions.”
Qatar 2022 organizers apologize
Finally, Tanhold received an apology from the Organizing Committee Qatar 2022.
“After checking the press service’s valid accreditation and recording permission, security officials apologized before the journalists continued their work,” the World Cup organizers said in a clarification, reproduced by Sky News.
In turn, they indicated that the authorities were informed that they must respect recording permissions issued to accredited persons.
