The space object is in the top 5 percent of the largest potentially dangerous asteroids known.
An international team of scientists has discovered a large Apollo-type space object that has been hiding from sunlight for a long time. The Watchers reported it.
It was noted that this object, called 2022 AP7, has a diameter of 1.1 to 2.3 km, making it the largest potentially hazardous asteroid discovered in nearly eight years.
2022 AP7 was first spotted at the Cerro Tololo-DECam Observatory, Chile on January 13, 2022.
The minimum Earth orbit crossing distance for AP7 2022 is 0.0475 astronomical units. The perihelion of the asteroid’s orbit is about 0.83 astronomical units from the Sun.
Earlier it was reported that the NASA spacecraft on Mars recorded the fall of two of the largest meteorites.
