In Ukraine, the polio outbreak, which started at the end of last year, continues. This was reported in the press service of the Ministry of Health.
At the beginning of the outbreak, cases of the disease were detected in the Rivne and Transcarpathian regions. Then a one and a half year old child received paralysis.
The Ministry of Health mentioned the importance of vaccination, which includes six doses, and stressed that the disease is not caused by the vaccine, but by the virus.
“There is no cure for polio, but vaccination saves from it. The full course of vaccination from the National Immunization Schedule protects the child for life,” said the Ministry of Health.
The ministry recalled that at two and four months, the baby is injected with the inactivated polio vaccine (IPV). Between the ages of six and 18 months, the child should receive the oral polio vaccine. It recurs between the ages of six and 14.
“The OPV vaccine builds immunity in the intestine, and therefore prevents the spread of the virus… What to do if you miss a shot? Contact your family doctor or pediatrician. He will help you create a personalized schedule to catch up on missed vaccines.” – added to the Ministry of Health.
It will be remembered that in January of this year, another case of polio was confirmed in Transcarpathia.
