Researchers say it is a group of five galaxies, four of which form a compact structure.
China’s FAST radio telescope has discovered a large structure of atomic gas in the universe. It happened under the direction of Stephen’s Quintet, Xinhua reports.
The researchers noted that the linear scale of the discovered structure of atomic hydrogen gas reached almost two million light years or 0.6 megaparsec. This makes it the largest structure of its kind in the universe.
It is thought to have arisen as a result of tidal interactions during the early stages of the formation of the Stefan Quintet.
But these results provide new information for understanding the evolution of galaxies and their interstellar gas, which may shed new light on this understanding.
Remember, also earlier, scientists from China recorded repeated rapid radio bursts – mysterious signals coming from a source, perhaps at a distance of three billion light-years from Earth.
In China, the signs of an alien civilization were obtained
