It is believed that Saint Nicholas was born 270 years after Jesus and lived most of his life in Demre.

Archaeologists in the small coastal town of Demre (Turkey) discovered the tomb of St. Nicholas under an ancient church. This was reported by The Sun.

Researchers say the remains were recently discovered under a 6th-century building, more than 1,600 years after his death. Saint Nicholas died on December 6, 343 AD and is probably buried in a UNESCO-recognized church.

Scientists say they found a grave at a depth of 1.5 meters under the marble floor of the church.

A long-standing theory is that the tomb moved underground during an earthquake and remained undetected until modern technology allowed archaeologists to scan below the surface.

It was previously reported that a team of Greek and Austrian archaeologists in southern Greece had found the temple of Samian Poseidon.
