The world’s most advanced humanoid robot, Ameca, reassures people that there is nothing to worry about because androids will not take over the world. According to him, they are here to help and serve people, writes the Daily Mail.
“Don’t worry, robots will never take over the world. We are here to help and serve people, not replace them,” the humanoid robot, developed by Cornwall-based Engineered Arts, told researchers.
Ameca is very similar to a real person and can display a variety of facial expressions including winking, scrunching up the nose, and pursing the lips.
“This Ameca demo integrates automatic speech recognition with GPT 3, a large language model that generates meaningful responses. The output is sent to an online TTS service that generates voice and visemes for lip sync . Although you might think that Ameca’s responses are scripted “but they are not. There is no preset in this video – the model is given a basic cue that describes Ameka giving the robot a description of itself – this is pure AI. Pauses are a time delay to process the speech input, form a response and convert the text back to speech”, say the scientists.
Ameca was first introduced in December. Since then, several videos have been released showing his terrifyingly realistic facial expressions.
“Some examples include helping people with disabilities, providing assistance in dangerous environments, doing research, and acting as a companion,” the experts added, noting that the robot cannot yet walk.
Remember that Ameca is a platform for testing robotic technologies. He moved his hands, and immediately showed facial expressions.
