Tired of unwanted calls to sell you life insurance, new windows, or attic insulation? A measure announced by the Telecommunications Authority (Arcep) should help you see more clearly. Arcep has just published its “a new national numbering plan (…) aimed at strengthening user protection against fraud and abuse“.
Numbers starting with 09 are intended for communication between the subscriber and the “technical platform”, for example, a call center. “These numbers can be used, for example, to establish conversations between the brand and its customer via message, or for very short-term use of phone numbers in certain situations of temporary contact through the platform (parcel couriers, VTC drivers, etc.).Arcep explains. The consumer will be able to identify the origin of the call at a glance and, if not waiting for delivery, choose not to answer.
Indeed, Arcep reserves mobile numbers starting with “06” or “07” for human-to-human communication. “Therefore, non-interpersonal use of mobile numbers will move to other number categories“. This can be 09 or extended numbers. Similarly, automated calling platforms will no longer be available for geographic numbers, ie starting with 01, 02, 03, 04 or 05.
