According to the US space agency, 2022 QC7 has almost no chance of hitting Earth.
NASA announced that a supersonic asteroid will fly by the Earth on September 6. Astronomers say that it will be ten times faster than a bullet, writes The Jerusalem Post.
Scientists named the celestial body 2022 QC7. It is known to be small, a maximum of 36 meters wide, which is half the wingspan of a Boeing 767. However, its speed is ten times greater than a NATO rifle bullet.
Asteroid 2022 QC7 is approaching our planet at a speed of about 9.10 km per second, or 32,760 km per hour, which is about 27 times the speed of sound.
According to the space agency, 2022 QC7 has little or no chance of hitting Earth and should travel more than 4.6 million kilometers away. But even if asteroid 2022 QC7 manages to hit Earth, it won’t change much, experts say.
Since the Moon orbits the Earth at an average distance of 384,000 kilometers, it is more, although not very far on a cosmic scale.
Recall that early scientists discovered that the Ryugu asteroid is composed of a material that matches the abundance of elements in the solar system.
