It is a rare “perpendicular sunspot” with magnetic poles orthogonal to the Sun’s equator.
Scientists from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory have found a surprisingly magnetized area on the Sun. This was reported by the portal Spaceweather.
The area is named AR3088. According to scientists, according to Hale’s law, the magnetic poles of the neoplasm should be located +/-, that is, positive (+) to the left and negative (-) to the right. This area flips them 90 degrees, positive (+) at the top and negative (-) at the bottom.
“It is possible that something unusual is happening in the Sun’s magnetic dynamo below the surface where this sunspot is growing. We will monitor AR3088 to see what happens next,” the researchers added.
At the same time, the NASA observatory fears that this object could be the source of flares that will cause magnetic storms on Earth.
Remember that the Earth began to rotate faster around its axis so that the shortest day was recorded.
