Thousands of users are reporting Google crashes

Tens of thousands of users of Google’s services reported outages on the DownDetector.com benchmark site Monday night, particularly with the search engine as well as Maps, its mapping application. “User reports indicate problems with Google Maps since 9:36 p.m.“, – wrote the site from Monday to Tuesday night.

More than 40,000 people in the United States reported to DownDetector that Google wasn’t working for them at 9:20 p.m., including in major cities like New York and Denver, Colorado. This rate dropped significantly over the next two hours, but fewer reports continued to be received, particularly for Google Cloud (remote computing) and Google Calendar. On Twitter, some users of the dominant search engine posted screenshots of error messages indicating a server problem.

We are aware of a software update issue that occurred late this afternoon PST that briefly affected access to Google Search and Maps, and we apologize for the inconvenience.A Google spokesperson contacted by AFP said. “We worked quickly to resolve the issue and our services are back online.“, he added.
