In the north of England, archaeologists discovered giant shoes, worn by the ancient Roman warriors.
In the UK, archaeologists discovered giant shoes, worn by Roman fort defendants, in the first centuries of our time.
The size of the shoe – more than 30 cm, which corresponds to the modern th -46 – struck scientists, as the average leg size in those days was smaller.
It was reported by CNN that there was a reference to senior archaeologists Rachel Fram, who was leading the excavations in the north of England.
The boots were found in the territory of the military fort, Magne, located along the Adrian Val – a stone wall 117 km long, built to protect the Roman Empire from the north tribes.
The shoes are made of thick leather beef, which are sewn by steel nails – obviously for prolonged use. But scientists were surprised not only at its safety, but also in size: for that time it was a huge leg.
“We are looking for many explanations. For example, maybe it’s their winter shoes, or people are stuffing it, putting it on additional socks. But since we eventually found more boots, we thought they were people with huge feet,” Frame said.
Fort Magno has been working since the year 85, the guards have changed every few years. Archaeologists have found the military mention from the territories of modern Syria, Croatia, Serbia and the Netherlands. But who exactly the ones with the boots are – still a riddle.
Perhaps, soldiers left things away from the garrison – and it allowed artifacts to find these artifacts after more than 1900 years. Very well sustainable leather soles are preserved due to a special overeating – using plant ingredients.
In the researchers’ immediate plan -to study prints that remained inside the shoe, and in their form to mimic the feet of the owners.
Digging in the fort continues. Archaeologists hope that such findings will help to deepen the day -to -day life of the Roman Legionnaires on the side of the empire.
Earlier it was reported that archaeologists had made a rare discovery in Peru – they discovered the city of the penic, which was almost 3,500 years old.
In Belize, they found a grave of the first Mayan leader for more than 1600 years
