The developed system can reduce the costs of the drug and closer to the appearance of the “medical superintelelex”, the company claims.
Microsoft has introduced a new diagnostic system based on artificial intelligence, which, according to the company, is four times more accurately reviewed than a group of doctors, Wired reports. In addition, it reduces medical examination costs by 20%.
According to Microsoft, general director of Microsoft Ai Mustafa Suleiman, the development is a “real step towards the medical superintelleck.” The system called MAI Diagnostic Orchestrator combines the capacity of the leading language models, including chatgpt from Openai, Gemini from Google, Claude from anthropic, llama from Meta and Grok from XII, and works on the principle of cooperation of many experts.
The study is based on 304 clinical cases from the New England Journal of Medicine. The system imitates the doctor’s actions: symptoms diagnosis, prescription tests, diagnosis. In the experiment, the accuracy of the system was 80%, while for doctors – only 20%. The system also chose cheaper, but effective diagnostic methods.
The project was led by former Google employees, trapped in Microsoft on its own, indicating an exacerbation of the competition between technohigans in the AI field. According to Dominic King, Vice President of Microsoft, the next step should check the system’s effectiveness in real clinical conditions.
However, experts warn that the results need to be interpreted carefully. In particular, the study does not consider the fact that doctors usually use auxiliary tools, but not made by II. It also remains misunderstood how the system considers the individual characteristics of the patients, for example, tolerance of procedures or equipment.
Currently, the company has not decided if it will commercialize the system, but allows its integration into Bing or other medical services. Microsoft believes that such developments can significantly reduce drug costs.
