Choose an association, decide on a donation goal to reach and start fundraising. It only takes a few clicks to create a charity stream. These live video streams to raise money for associations will be simplified on Twitch with the Charity feature introduced on July 19th. It will be directly integrated into the platform.
As charity streams grow and multiply, the recipe was not easy to post. Organizers had to go through third-party companies to receive donations or convert subscriptions and bits (a virtual currency worth a penny) into real money. It was then their job to provide the funds to the associations. They can now sign up for the Paypal Giving Fund, a platform partner to make the donation process easier. All Twitch donations are sent to Paypal, which gives them directly to the associations.
Concern for transparency
On the audience side, the process is also much simpler. No need to go through a third-party platform and go to another site to be generous. Now just click “give” directly on the broadcast page. “Supporting these causes will be easier, simpler, more impactful”, mentions the platform on his blog. This is also a way to ensure more transparency on the use of collected funds. It will be possible to follow the movement of the given money until it is allocated to the association. It is enough to dispel doubts and avoid scams. “Twitch does not participate in these donations or tax deductions”. Only payment costs are deducted.
The functionality is still in testing and only a few associations are offered. The list will grow over time, and a few select broadcasters may already offer new entities. For big events, it’s a godsend. For example, Zevent organized by Adrien Nougaret (ZeratoR) and Alexandre Dachary (Dach), which raised 10 million euros for Action Against Hunger, will distribute the winnings equally among 5 environmental protection associations. With this tool, the logistics can be simpler and the cause more accessible. See you on September 8, 9, 10 and 11 at Zevent 2022.
