At the site of the ancient capital of Phrygia, archaeologists have dug the funeral age for more than 2700 years. The cremated remains located inside may belong to a relative of the legendary King Midas.
In Turkey, in the territory of the ancient city of Gordion, the capital of the Phrygian kingdom, archaeologists discovered a well -modified grave for about 2800 years. It can have a direct connection to the dynasty of the legendary Tsar Midas.
The opening was reported by researchers from the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology of the University of Pennsylvania, according to popular science.
The tomb is located on the T-26 mound and dates to approximately 750 a year BC. Inside, archaeologists found the remains of a cremated body – an unusual phenomenon for that time. According to scientists, the cremation in Gordonia was only a hundred years after this funeral, so the search changes the idea of the funeral traditions of the elite of the time.
In addition to the debris, the researchers stumbled on artifacts associated with ritual festivals: boilers, jugs, bowls, as well as remnants of tissues preserved on the surface of the dish. All of this suggests that the deceased has a high social status.
Although it was not established belonging to the grave, the age and location of the funeral indicated a possible connection to King Midas or his nearby family. Earlier, in 1957, they found another grave nearby – perhaps the father of Midas – who also contained important findings, including the oldest wooden building.
