A solar-powered drone can be used for surveillance and intelligence gathering.
Zephyr’s ultra-long-range solar-powered drone broke its previous endurance record in a recent test. New Atlas reported this.
It is noted that the UAV has a wingspan of 25 meters, weighs less than 75 kg, making it light for its size. It can also climb to a height of 21.3 kilometers.
The previous record for flight duration was set in 2018, which was reduced by just three minutes to 26 days without refueling. The last test was launched on July 15, the duration of the flight reached 36 days, and it is still flying at the Yuma test site in Arizona.
It’s about to come down – not because it’s running out of energy, but because another test launch into the Pacific is scheduled for the next two weeks.
