With the help of the AI, researchers managed that two fragments of Bible scrolls probably came from time, which traditionally associated with their sets -in the first instance of the research history of these manuscripts.
The team of researchers from the University of Groningen (Netherlands) using artificial intelligence determined the age of the dead sea with a record accuracy. According to the kind -gracious engineering, a new approach combines radiocarbon, ancient letter and machine study.
In the middle of the study is a system called Enoch, the first artificial intelligence that can calculate the possible date of creation of ancient Jewish and Aramaic manuscripts, which rely exclusively in the style of writing text. Those with the project set: “We have opened new doors to the antique world, such as a time machine that allows us to study the hands that write the Bible.”
With the help of Enoch, researchers have managed to establish two fragments of Bible scrolls probably originated in the season, which is traditionally associated with those who are set -in the first time in the research history of these manuscripts.
Dead Sea flits are usually dated a period from the 3rd century BC. Up to the II century ad however, for many manuscripts, accurate dating remains complicated. To solve this problem, researchers collected new radiocarbon data from 24 scrolls, which allowed to train the Binet neural network – the basis of Enoch. He examines these -Scan images of manuscripts, studying bends of strokes and the shape of the letters.
The results of the model are confirmed by radiocarbon data: the mistake is only 30 years – less than the traditional method for texts of the period of 300-50 years BC.
Generally, the enoch system reviews 135 scrolls. In most cases, he confirmed existing scientific assessments, but he sometimes asked them. For example, the model announced that the written style of Hasmoneev era emerged earlier than it was believed (up to 150-50 BC), and the so-called Herodian font also rises earlier and in conjunction with Khasmonean at the end of the II century BC.
The study was published in the Journal Plos One.
We will remind you, earlier that artificial intelligence in the first time has specified the name of the “unread” scroll from Vesuvius.
The letter found opens a new fact about Shakespeare
