Scientists from Japan have created a new type of plastic, which has dissolved in sea water in just a few hours.
Japanese scientists have developed plastic, which can be completely dissolved in sea water in just a few hours – without environmental damage, Reuters reports.
This breakthrough can be an important step in overcome by one of the most acute challenges of our time – ocean pollution.
Researchers from the midst of the new components of Riken and Tokyo University have worked on the creation of new material. They argue that this plastic is not only biodegradable, but also unique in its possessions: it is strong, like ordinary oil plastic, but decaying faster and leafless.
Project manager Takuzo Aida said the new material was durable as an oil plastic. At the same time, it destroys the initial ingredients under the influence of salt. Later, environmental bacteria can process them, which will help prevent microplasty formation, which is harmful to water inhabitants.
Because salt is also present in the soil, the material can also decompose into the ground – even more time, about 200 hours for a measurement of 5 cm.
Another advantage is that the new plastic is not burning, not -toxic and does not release carbon dioxide during decomposition.
“Children cannot choose the planet where they can live. Our role as scientists is to provide them with the best possible environment,” Ida added.
Earlier it was reported that the material scholars of Allison Christie and Scott Phillips from the University of Boyce Aidaho in the United States have developed a new type of plastic.
