American scientists have developed a chewing gum that can destroy viruses before they enter the body cells.
Scientists from the University of Pennsylvania work in a unique chewing elastic band, which can neutralize viruses directly in the oral cavity and throat. It can be a new word in preventing infections, BILD reports.
The idea appeared during the pandemic covid-19. Professor Henry Danielle with a team created an elastic band based on plant cells, which produces a large amount of CTB-ACE2 protein. This protein blocks the virus before it has time to attach to the body’s cells. In laboratory conditions, such chewing gum reduced coronavirus concentration by 95%.
Now scientists use both technology to combat flu strains and herpes virus. The new version of the elastic band also showed encouraging laboratory results, and in the near future they plan to try it in public.
Earlier it was reported that Israeli doctors had successfully cured a 22-year-old patient who for years suffered from an unusual disease- “allergic to an orgasm.”
