Archaeologists have made rare discoveries in the ancient Assos city in Turkey. During the excavation, a mosaic of the Hellenistic Age and a Roman season was discovered.
In the ancient city of Assos, located in the northwest of Turkey, archaeologists made unique discoveries, Armeonews reports.
During the 44th excavation period led by Professor Nurerettin Arslan, scientists discovered a rare Hellenistic mosaic and a massive Roman season.
The mosaic found on the Western City Wall in the Inn, is made up of polygonal teser, which forms complex geometric and floral ornaments. Such artifacts in Anatolia are very rare, and most of these finds are slightly preserved. Researchers suggest that this mosaic is one of the most ancient examples of massive mosaic art of the Hellenistic Age in the region. First, the building where it was found may be a gymnasium, but during Byzantine it was converted into a residential building.
Another important found is a massive grave in the eastern part of Agora. In the past, it was mistakenly considered a fountain, however, excavations confirmed that this here was a massive tomb, perhaps a noble family of the Roman Empire organization. In its greatness, the tomb resembles the famous tombstone of the two brothers, located on the southern part.
The associations of many ancient secrets continue to surprise archaeologists with new discoveries. This city, at different times, attracts philosophers, merchants and leaders, along with each new artifact showing more and more details about the life and culture of ancient times.
Earlier it was reported that archaeologists had found a mosaic depicting nude satires, characters of ancient Greek mythology.
