NASA has revealed amazing images of star clusters that resemble a Christmas tree and wreath.
For the holidays, NASA has released incredible images of star clusters that resemble symbols of Christmas – a Christmas tree and a wreath decorated with lights.
The first cluster, NGC 2264, is located in our galaxy, the Milky Way. In November, Arizona-based astrophotographer Michael Clow captured the cluster, and NASA combined its images with data from the Chandra X-ray Observatory. The result shows clouds of gas and stars that create the image of a Christmas tree. The stars in NGC 2264 are very young, only 1-5 million years old. For comparison, the Sun is about 5 billion years old.
Another image shows the cluster NGC 602, located in the Small Magellanic Cloud – at a distance of about 200 thousand light years from Earth. It resembles a Christmas wreath decorated with lights. But this “decoration” consists not only of stars, but also of galaxies located far from the cluster.

To create this happy image, NASA combined data from the Chandra and James Webb telescopes. The young stars within NGC 602 appear red, while the dust clouds are colored orange, yellow, green and blue.
It was previously reported that astronomers have discovered for the first time a pair of stars orbiting each other near a supermassive black hole.
