After 47 years and many setbacks, US police have finally identified the Pinnacle Man, whose body was found frozen in a cave in Pennsylvania.

The US has finally identified the man known as the Pinnacle Man, whose body was found frozen in a cave in Pennsylvania 47 years ago. CNN reported it.

It was learned that this became possible after a police officer accidentally discovered a missing folder with fingerprints.

On January 16, 1977, hikers discovered the frozen body of a man in a cave beneath Pinnacle Mountain. Police were unable to identify him based on his appearance, clothing or equipment. An autopsy revealed that the cause of death was a drug overdose, with no signs of foul play.

During the autopsy, fingerprints were taken and dental records were taken, but the copies were subsequently lost. It was only in 2019 that the police dealt with the case again. Dental records were matched to two disappearance cases in Florida and Illinois, but were unrelated to the exhumed body.

After years of searching, in August 2024, police officer Ian Keck found the missing fingerprint card. With the help of an FBI fingerprint expert, the prints were matched to missing man Nicholas Paul Grubb, 27, of Fort Washington, Pennsylvania.

Grubb’s family members were told the results of the investigation and asked the police to release the remains to them for burial in the family plot.

It was previously reported that scientists have found evidence that Europeans were using coca in the 17th century, before the plant became popular in the 19th century.
