China is rapidly expanding its capabilities for both space exploration and warfare.
China is keeping its military presence in space and wants to capture the Moon. The head of NASA, Bill Nelson, announced this on Thursday, April 18, reports Sky News.
“We believe that an important part of their so-called civilian space program is a military program,” he said at a meeting of the US House of Representatives Appropriations Committee.

He explained that China has made “extraordinary strides” in space exploration, especially in the past 10 years, but they are of a high class.
“The last date they said they were going to the moon was 2030, but it keeps moving. It’s our responsibility to get there first and use our exploration efforts for peaceful purposes,” Nelson said.
He predicted that China could claim part of outer space as its territory if it is the first to reach the moon.
“If Beijing gets there first, it can say, ‘OK, this is our territory, stay away,'” the NASA chief warned.
“I hope that the Chinese space program will understand and realize that civil space is for peaceful use, but we don’t see that being shown,” Nelson said.
Harbin Institute of Technology and China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation unveiled China’s first science center called the Space Environment Modeling and Research Center (SESR). It covers an area the size of 50 football fields.
