Archaeologists have identified the artifact as extremely rare. The ancient weapon was made of bronze and was just over 10.5 cm long.
The bronze dagger, which is more than 4,000 years old, was found in a forest near the town of Jaroslaw on the San River in southeastern Poland. It was reported by Arkeonews.
The artifact, which has been identified as extremely rare, is made of bronze and measures more than 10.5 centimeters in length. The value of the find is due to the fact that, according to scientists, in the 3rd millennium BC, copper objects were very rare in the area.
According to archaeologist Dr. Marcin Burggardt from the Jarosław Museum, the dagger found in Korzenica can be dated to the second half of the 3rd millennium BC.
“In the Polish lands, it was a period of enormous changes, particularly related to changes in the main raw materials for the manufacture of tools. Instead of flint tools, which were widely used in the Stone Age, more more and more metal products appeared, which heralded the transition to the next period – the Bronze Age,” he said.
However, the discovered dagger was not cast from bronze, but made from bronze.
“Thus, it preceded the development of bronze metallurgy. In the 3rd millennium BC, objects made of bronze were rarely used, so only people of the highest social status could afford the There is no doubt that the dagger is not a local product,” added doctor Elzbieta Sieradzka-Burgardt, archaeologist from the Jaroslaw Museum.
During this period, metal products were imported from the territory occupied by modern Ukraine or Hungary and were available only to the elite. The origin of the ancient weapons will be determined in the future using special metallurgical analysis.
It was previously reported that Polish archaeologists discovered a medieval decoration in the shape of a dove with a Latin inscription: “AMOR VINCIT OMNIA” – “Love conquers all.”
