The results of the study provide insight into the cultural practices and possible beliefs of this ancient nomadic society.
A group of anthropologists say that Scythian warriors used quivers made from the skins of their defeated enemies. They brought their arrows with them, writes Arkeonews.
Scientists have studied the claims of the Greek historian Herodotus, who wrote that the Scythians used the skulls of their enemies as drinking vessels, drank their blood and even made quivers from skin of the right hand of their enemies.
“Using modern methods of protein analysis on 45 leather samples from 14 Scythian sites in southern Ukraine, we determined the animal origin of most of the samples – the skin of horses, cows, goats or sheep. However, two skin samples are special – they were made from human skin, as Herodotus wrote about. Interestingly, these fragments of human skin are found only on the upper part of the quiver, while other quivers were made from animal skins. It is important to note that the use of human skin for the manufacture of weapons is not unique to the Scythians,” the scientists said.
It has been noted that human skin has been used for a variety of purposes throughout history, including binding books and creating terrifying artifacts. In addition, the discovery of human skin among the Scythians provides important information about their cultural traditions.
In addition, one theory suggests that the use of human skin in leather production may be related to religious beliefs or rituals. The Scythians were known for their elaborate burial practices, often involving elaborate burial rituals and the placement of precious objects in graves. Human skin can be used to perpetuate the memory of the deceased.

We remind you that earlier a Scythian settlement was found in the Khmelnitsky region.
