All species emit green, blue, pink or white under ultraviolet light.

Scientists have identified 125 species of mammals that glow under ultraviolet light. The list includes a pet cat, Science Alert reports.

The researchers worked with exhibits from the Western Australian Museum that were irradiated with ultraviolet light.

Thus, it became known that mammals from 79 families and 27 orders can glow under ultraviolet light. It is a cat, a polar bear, a zebra, a fox, a leopard, a marsupial mole, a bilby, and a bat.

But only the teeth of the long-snouted dolphin shine.

“Although the amount and location of fluorescence varies from species to species, all show some form of visible fluorescence. White and light feathers, feathers, whiskers, claws, teeth and some areas of bare skin fluoresce,” the researchers said.

According to them, fluorescence is most common in nocturnal mammals.

Let’s remember that earlier the Japanese developed transgenic monkeys that glowed green in ultraviolet light.
