It is a chronic infectious disease transmitted by mosquitoes. It can be asymptomatic, which means it’s harder to detect.
The WHO says there is a risk of dengue fever spreading rapidly in the US, southern Europe and Africa this decade. Reuters writes about it.
According to the organization’s infectious disease specialist, Jeremy Farrar, this is due to the increase in temperature that creates favorable conditions for the spread of disease-carrying mosquitoes.
“Dengue will become endemic in the southern United States, southern Europe and parts of Africa. These are the areas where local cases have been recorded. We really need to prepare countries on how they will deal with the additional pressure that will emerge… in future in many big cities. It’s really intensive clinical care, it requires a high nurse-to-patient ratio,” said the infectious disease specialist.
We remind you that in 2022, the first case of West Nile fever was detected in Kyiv region.
