Scientists analyzed the DNA of the frogs and confirmed that it was an unknown species of the Bufo genus.
While exploring Mount Nankun in Guangdong province along China’s southern coast, scientists stumbled upon a new species of tiny frog-like creatures. The Bellingham Herald writes about it.
Researchers have already made detailed measurements and carried out molecular analysis, which showed that representatives of this species are very small in size.
“Males are about 4 centimeters tall and females are slightly larger, about 5 centimeters. Their parotid glands are olive-shaped and are external glands located near the face. There are white spots also on men’s fingers. We analyzed the DNA of the frogs and confirmed, that it is a previously unknown species of the genus Bufo. This genus has 24 species, 18 of which are found in China, ” said the experts.
The new species is named Exiguus. It means small in Latin.
