It is 1,300 light-years from Earth in the Orion star-forming region full of young stars.

Astronomers have released a photo of a dark nebula known as LDN 1622. Space report.

Such nebulae are called dark nebulae because the dense interstellar dust obscures light from nearby stars and other objects.

The most recent photo is known to have been taken with the 4-meter Nicholas W. Mayall Telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory in Arizona.

Astronomers photographed this view of LDN 1622 using a telescope called Mosaic-3’s wide-angle camera in 2018, before a fire partially damaged the observatory.

It was previously reported that the BepiColombo spacecraft took a picture of Mercury.
