It may not be possible to achieve this goal, and this is due to the fact that there are only 16 years left – before the beginning of 2039.
NASA says that the first astronauts can fly around Mars in a spacecraft as early as 2033. The landing itself on the Red Planet will take place in 2040, writes Space.
“Landing people on the Red Planet in 2040 after six months of space travel is a very ambitious task. It may not be possible to achieve this goal, and this is due to the fact that there are only 16 year (because everything) should be ready by 2039 ) to create all the necessary technology. But that is not the point. In order for people to fly to Mars, it is necessary to have a permanent base on the Moon already in the early 2030s. Also, at this time, a permanent base should be built and functioning “Gateway Lunar Space Station. This station houses supplies and astronauts for further flights to Mars. Also, this station and the lunar base should be used as a test site for flights to the Red Planet,” said Jim Reiter of NASA.
Astronauts will fly to the Gateway station, live there for six months, then descend to the surface of the moon and stay there for a month. Then they return to the Gateway orbital station again for six months and only after that they return to Earth.
Recall that earlier the company of the American billionaire Elon Musk SpaceX created a video that shows how you can imagine the first flight to Mars with people on board the latest Starship rocket.
