After a series of mutations, the coronavirus is no longer as dangerous as in 2020, said the president of the Italian Medicines Agency.
The World Health Organization may soon announce the end of the coronavirus pandemic, because after a series of mutations, it no longer poses a risk as in 2020. This is what the virologist, president of the Italian Medicines Agency (Aifa) said that Giorgio Palu in an interview with Corriere della Sera.
“We have to declare the end of the pandemic. I believe the World Health Organization is close to it, but the delay is due to the remaining precautions,” said Palu.
The virologist added that the current strain of Arcturus often causes colds and conjunctivitis in children, but the disease is usually mild.
“It has a very short incubation period, two days compared to the first 7-8 days, which speeds up its transmission, but the virus stops in the upper respiratory tract without entering the lungs, making the disease mild or asymptomatic,” – Palu said.
In addition, Palu said that the need to get vaccinated remains only for risk groups, including the elderly.
“We are waiting for the official sign of the end. Of course, we live in a context that, from a virological point of view, is definitely post-pandemic. The data on mortality, morbidity, continuous decline of Italians and international hospital also testify to this,” said the virologist.
It will be recalled that the Ministry of Health said that the incidence of coronavirus in Ukraine has decreased.
In March of this year, the World Health Organization announced a significant decrease in deaths from COVID.
