Gordon Moore, microprocessor industry pioneer and co-founder Intelthe largest semiconductor maker at the time, died Friday at the age of 94, the company said.

Moore has been a titan of modern technological transformation, helping companies create ever smaller and more powerful chips.

An engineer by training, he co-founded Intel in July 1968 and eventually became its president, chief executive officer, and chairman of the board.

Moore died “surrounded by his family at his home in Hawaii,” he said. Intel.

The Santa Clara, California-based company was known for its constant innovation in its early years until it became one of the most important technology firms.

The Mind Behind Moore’s Law

Moore is credited with the theory, which was later dubbed “Moore’s law”, according to which integrated circuits would double their power every year, which he later recalculated every two years.

This axiom has been stuck in industry jargon for decades and has become synonymous with the rapid technological progress of the modern world.

Moore got out Intel in 2006 year.

During his lifetime, he has donated over $5.1 billion to charitable causes through a foundation he created with his wife, Betty, to whom he was married for 72 years.

“While he never aspired to be a household name, Gordon’s vision and life’s work has made possible the phenomenal innovations and technological developments that shape our lives every day,” said Harvey Feinberg, president of Gordon & Betty Moore.

Tribute from Intel

“He has been instrumental in unlocking the power of transistors and has inspired tech professionals and entrepreneurs for decades,” said Pat Gelsinger, CEO Intel.

“He left behind a legacy that has changed the lives of every person on the planet. His memory will live on,” Gelsinger added on his Twitter account.
