World’s oldest Hebrew Bible up for auction

Sotheby’s puts world’s oldest Hebrew Bible on sale. The auction will take place in New York. The book is more than 1100 years old. The New York Times reported it.

The Holy Scriptures are called the Code of Sassoon. It dates from the end of the 9th – beginning of the 10th century.

The Sassoon Code contains all 24 books of the Hebrew Bible. This book is missing about five leaves, which include the first ten chapters of Genesis.

It will be noted that the original Bible consisted of 400 parchment sheets.

It is also known that the Code of Sassoon was shown to the public only once – at the British Museum in 1982. And now it can be seen in London, Tel Aviv, Dallas, Los Angeles and New York.

The book is currently owned by a Swiss financier.
