Minnechauga Regional Schoollocated in Hampden-Wilbraham, Massachusettsdecided to change all the lighting in his house in 2021 to install smart lights in order to save energy and reduce costs. However, although the education center has changed all the light bulbs to 7,000 of its smart options, it has not been able to turn them off since the middle of the year in which it decided to introduce them.

As per what the chain mentions NBK7,000 school lights have been on all the time since August 2021, the date they were installed. “We are well aware that this costs taxpayers a very significant amount of money. We are doing our best to solve the problem”mentioned Aaron Osborneassistant to the head of the department of finance of the institution.

The problem caused by high technology

Although this lighting change was carried out in order to save energy and money, the school’s electricity bill has been recorded in large numbers for more than 17 months, and it is paid not by the school administration, but by the state administration. Why can’t the managers of this building turn off the lights? The reason is that, unlike conventional fixtures, there is no switch in this lighting system.

When the school decided to install new lighting, they opted for versions so advanced that they don’t have physical switches on the walls of the building. The system is controlled by centralized software on a single server, and in August 2021, due to a rare software glitch, the lights stopped turning off when they should.

The end of the nightmare is near

One possible solution to this problem, of course, would be to call the company that installed the lighting and ask them to turn off all the lights. Unfortunately the company 5th light it has since closed and changed hands constantly. It currently bears the name Reflector lighting group and no one working on it has the slightest idea how to use the system or how to access it.

The only way to fix this error is to take the server offline and replace it with a new one. But, since this system also powers other devices such as electronic boards, projectors, and more, there is a chance that all of this equipment will not work when communication is restored. The school introduced a procedure to achieve this, but it was not implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the semiconductor crisis.

To date, the school has pulled fuses from unneeded systems, and teachers have been ordered to unscrew light bulbs in classrooms to try and mitigate the problem as much as possible. However, many light points are LEDs mounted in such a way that they cannot be accessed.

Paul Mastoncurrent president Reflector lighting groupindicates that the problem will be permanently fixed in February 2023 by installing a new system with switches that will allow it to be turned off manually if something goes wrong again.
