Experts noted that so far there is little evidence that the inner core strongly affects Earth’s inhabitants.
Researchers at Peking University say that Earth’s inner core has stopped rotating in the same direction as the planet itself. Yahoo News reported it.
It was noted that this planet, within a planet about 5,000 kilometers below the Earth’s surface, can rotate independently because it floats in an outer core of liquid metal.
The authors of the study, Xiaodong Song and Yi Yang, report that they found that the rotation of the inner core almost stopped in 2009 and then turned in the opposite direction.
“We believe that the inner core rotates back and forth relative to the Earth’s surface, like a seesaw. A seesaw cycle lasts about seven decades. That is, it changes direction approximately every 35 years ,” They said.
They also say that the core previously reversed direction in the early 1970s, with the next reversal occurring in the mid-2040s.
Experts hope that the study may “encourage some researchers to develop and test models that view the entire Earth as an integrated dynamical system.”
It was previously reported that a giant sunspot appeared in the star of our planet. Scientists say it could stage another plasma ejection that will crash into Earth.
