NBA. Celtics win leadoff against Suns, Morant completes triple double

Boston stars Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum shined in a clash between the NBA’s Western and Eastern Conference leaders in Phoenix that was won by the Celtics on Wednesday, and Ja Morant’s triple-double led Memphis to a win over Oklahoma City.

Tatum and Brown each scored 25 points, and the Eastern Conference-leading Celtics improved to the current NBA best record by going 21-5, easily dominating Western Conference-leading Phoenix (125-98).

In the East, Boston now has three wins over Milwaukee, who have played two games less. In the West, Phoenix went 16-9 and tied for first place with New Orleans (16-8).

The Suns trailed 69-42 at halftime, their largest deficit at this point in the game this season, and trailed by as many as 45 points in the third quarter.

We really bondedTatum said. “We were just making the right choice. We hit a lot of shots tonight“.

The Celtics, who lost to Golden State in the NBA Finals last season, improved to 10-3 on the road.

But we are far from satisfiedTatum pointed out. “It doesn’t mean anything if we don’t get back to where we want to go (the NBA Finals) and get over that top. It’s a long process, but we’re headed in the right direction“The 24-year-old winger assured.

Meanwhile, Morant had 26 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists to lead Memphis to a 123-102 win over the Thunder.

It’s the 23-year-old Baines’ sixth career triple-double, a franchise record. “That means a lotMorant said: “Much of the credit goes to my teammates and coaches who put me in a position to excel at a high level“.

We knew rebounds were going to be important. I got into it right from the start, and caught seven pretty early on. All other stats are thanks to my teammates. The fact that they were filming gave me opportunities to shoot– he greeted.

Memphis allowed just 15 points in the fourth quarter. “It was mostly about closing the game, getting blocks and reboundsMorant explained. “We have to keep fighting and playing hard” warned the Grizzlies star, staying strong at No. 3 in the West.

Williamson carries the Pelicans

Jordan Poole scored 36 points for the Warriors, but it was his missed pass that allowed the Italian winger to make the game-winning shot inside.

Jordan Clarkson led the Jazz with 22 points and Fontecchio added 18 points.

Cameroon’s Pascal Siakam and Fred Van Vleet scored 25 points each in Toronto Raptors’ victory over Los Angeles Lakers (126-113).

With Anthony Davis out due to illness and LeBron James suffering from an ankle injury, the Lakers were able to rely on German guard Dennis Schroder, who scored 18 points to lead a still-insufficient Toronto win.
