Wimbledon. Jaber calmly passes to the 2nd stage

World No. 2 On Jaber, who ruled out an injury four days ago in the doubles semifinals in Eastbourne against Serena Williams, was given a quiet start to Wimbledon second round on Monday. The 27-year-old Tunisian defeated Sweden’s Mirjam Bjorklund (125th in qualifying) 6-1, 6-3 in 53 minutes.

In the next round, she will face Rebecca Marino of Canada (104th) or Katarzyna Kava of Poland (132nd of the qualifying rounds). Last year, Jaber reached the grassroots quarterfinals, equaling his best result in the 2020 Grand Slam in Australia.

In Eastbourne, the Tunisian was chosen by Serena Williams as a partner in the return of a 40-year-old American woman, almost a year after leaving Wimbledon with a thigh injury in the first round of 2021. Both players won their first two matches, however. had to reach the semi-finals before Jaber injured his right knee.
