Interethnic Association for the Development of the Peruvian Jungle (Idesep) issued a statement today, Friday, in which he condemned that the former head of the cabinet, Hannibal Torresappointed head of the Cabinet of Councilors under the Presidium of the Council of Ministers (PCM), acted in accordance with the “contemptuous and aggressive” during a meeting with state representatives held yesterday afternoon.
According to the statement, towers would go as a representative Betsy Chavez to the dialogue table to address the issue of abolishing the mother tongue requirement for teaching positions in EIB recognized educational institutions.
“arrogant attitude”
Local communities indicated that “after a long wait” Hannibal Torres came to the meeting to have a dialogue that included both representatives of the jungle organizations and Ombudsman and the Prefect of Junina.
“Far from taking a conciliatory stance, the former prime minister decided to ratify his position and support the goal of exterminating EIB, and hence also the source languages. In this sense, he did not accept any idea that contradicted his opinion, and treated us dismissively and aggressively,” Aydesep condemned in his statement.
Communities indicated that while their leaders and Ombudsman tried to intervene in the dialogue, towers “didn’t listen” to their arguments. They also indicated that Education Minister Rosendo Serna supported this position and insisted on the position Minedu regarding the topic.
“Eventually (Torres) ordered his army of technicians to write a preconceived act that he intended to force us to sign, which did not happen due to the firmness of our convictions,” he said. Idesep.
Confronted with this attitude, the congregations reported that they left the room and described as “disrespectful” the way the executive branch “intent on reaffirming its position”.
“We reject the advisor’s arrogant attitude Hannibal Torreswho demonstrated racismcolonialism and minimize the serious violation of the fundamental right of thousands of indigenous children and adolescents to access intercultural and bilingual education, which provides a teaching methodology in their mother tongue,” they said.
Finally, Idesep repeated the demand that the Minister of Education “come to the central Selva to report on the repeal of the Vice Minister’s decrees threatening EIB”.
“We remind the PCM Councilor and government authorities that any measure affecting the rights of indigenous peoples must be the subject of prior, free and informed consultations. And what respect EIB This is not a “mere whim” of representative indigenous organizations,” they stressed.
