Donald Trump has long equaled fan numbers with success, according to reports.
GOP strategist Susan del Percio said Trump is now lagging behind in that size as his mass rallying shrinks.
“This is what you saw there,” he told MSNBC’s Corey Kouffin a day after Trump appeared before a surprisingly small crowd in Selma, North Carolina. “The base is shrinking drastically.”
“This crowd is shrinking and people aren’t buying it, mainly because Republicans want to keep going. They don’t want to tell big lies,” Del Percio said in a clip posted by Raw Story. “People in this country don’t want to know anymore.”
Selma’s event was the second in recent weeks to feature low activity. In late March, he spoke at a rally in Georgia to local media, calling it the smallest thing he has in the country since the 2016 election.
Del Percio called it a signal that Republicans want to move.
“They end up with Donald Trump and his lies, except for the small group we see there,” he said.
