“Okay, let me tell you, before Elon Musk talks about this, Ford’s investment has been increasing widely,” Biden told reporters. “Ford is increasing investment and making new electric vehicles. 6,000 new employees – union workers, I might add – in the Midwest. Former Chrysler Corporation… They’re also making similar investments in electric vehicles. “Intel will add 20,000 new jobs to make computer chips.”
“So, you know, a lot of luck on his journey to the moon,” Biden continued. “I do not know.”
Musk’s comment to employees about his “extremely bad feeling” came two days after the billionaire told his employees to go back to work or leave the company. Shares in the company dropped more than 8% on Friday after Musk sent Tesla employees about job cuts.
Musk also made headlines for his attempt to gain Twitter. Shareholders of the social media firm recently sued Musk in court, saying he criticized the company in a deliberate attempt to sow suspicion about the deal and reduce the value of Twitter.
Despite Musk’s “bad feelings” about the economy, the world’s richest man wrote last week that a recession would be “good” because “money has been raining down on fools for a long time.”
Meanwhile, U.S. employers added 390,000 jobs in May more than expected and the unemployment rate remains unchanged at 3.6 percent.
“We can’t deny that high prices, especially for fuel and food, are a real problem for people,” Biden said at a press conference on Friday. “But there’s every reason why Americans are confident we can face these challenges.”
