The National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) imposed a 15-day disciplinary sanction on former President Pedro Castillo after he posted a signed letter via Twitter on January 26 in which he claimed to be a “political prisoner” of the government. Dina Boluarte.
“(…) The Penitentiary Technical Council of the Barbadillo Penitentiary decided that the disciplinary sanction of restriction of communication with the outside world should be prescribed, for a period of 15 days, in accordance with the provisions of article 30 of the Penal Code”, – stated in the message.
In addition, INPE added that the measure implies the restriction of visits from relatives and friends during the specified period; however, this does not prevent the entrance of the lawyers of Pedro Casillo – in exercising his right to defense – nor about the participation of the ex-president in court hearings.
“Congressmen are not prevented from entering the prison while performing their functions,” the statement said.
What did Pedro Castillo say?
Recall that on January 26, the former president published a letter on Twitter, in which he questioned the government of President Dina Boluarte and called himself his political prisoner.
“After my arbitrary captivity by the dictatorship Dina Boluartethrough a legally incorrect legal process that violates the Constitution of Peru, the Inter-American Charter of Human Rights and the Charter of the United Nations, condemned the human rights violations committed against my indigenous brothers, ”the letter says.
Except, Pedro Castillo He blamed Dina Boluarte for the deaths and injuries during the protests against the government of the former head of Midis. In a letter posted on social media, he thanked Presidents Gustavo Petro (Colombia), Xiomar Castro (Honduras) and Andrés Manuel López Obrador (Mexico) for what they demanded during the summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), for it to be released
Has a different disciplinary process
As you know, INPE announced in February of this year the initiation of a second administrative disciplinary process against former President Pedro Castillo.
As stated, the reason may have been a “purported interview” that the former president gave to a media outlet called www.elsaltodiario.com. The institution indicated in a statement that it did not authorize any interrogations in the prison.
