Parliamentarians from different benches continue to work virtually in Congress. Chairman of the Legislative Assembly, Joseph Williamsordered that all plenary sessions be held in person, but congressmen insist on working from home.
According to the Sunday report fourth forceone of the missing Noelia Herrera Medina, congressman of the People’s Renewal of Callao. He reappeared last Friday after not attending the January plenary sessions and communicating only via computer or mobile phone. He did not even support the bills he presented.
“In January I was on a medical holiday, from December to January 8 I was on sick leave, so it’s justified,” Herrera Medina. She claimed that she always works locally in her region, although she is the representative of Callao and does not need to travel outside of Lima.
Second case Maria Cordova Lobaton, congressman for Lambayeque of Advance Pais. She asked for leave for health reasons to stop attending plenary meetings and congressional committees in person. However, he used these permits to travel to his region and participate in family affairs.

Hector Acuna He also does not go to plenary sessions and admitted that he does not go because he prefers to spend time on “more useful things.” In the same situation Jose Luna Galvez (Maybe Peru) who not only acts as a virtual congressman, but is also absent from the plenary sessions. On March 22, he was on sick leave, the next day he was absent without good reason during the entire legislative session. And last Wednesday, the 29th, he was given an official license not to participate in the plenary session.
Congress Justifies Remote Work
Parliament announced that the mayor’s office would withhold the salaries of congressmen who did not justify their absence both from the plenary session and from the commissions they belong to. However, they note that virtuality is the accepted form of work.
“Remote legislative work has now been adopted in the parliaments of countries such as Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, Spain, the United States, to name but a few. In the case of the Peruvian Congress, this allowed the legislative functions to continue. representation and political control for the benefit of the country,” the document says.
