The plenum of the Congress of the Republic is evaluating the final report of the constitutional indictment against former Prime Minister Betsy Chavez this afternoon. former Interior Minister Willy Huerta and former head of foreign trade and tourism Roberto Sanchez. From 16:00, the parliamentary representation will decide whether to authorize the National Prosecutor’s Office to continue the investigation of former officials on suspicion of rebellion and conspiracy.

Recall that last Tuesday, March 14, the Permanent Commission, with 24 votes “for” with two “against” with one abstention, approved the final report of the subcommittee on constitutional charges against Chavez Chino. Likewise, he approved reports against former ministers Huerta and Sanchez. On the same day, it was also decided that the deputy of People’s Action, Wilson Sotoand head of the SAC, Lady Camones.

The investigation launched against the former officials is a response to their alleged involvement in a failed coup attempt by former President Pedro Castillo on December 7, 2022. Then Castillo Terrones announced that he would close the Congress and all institutions related to the national judiciary.

The judiciary has imposed a 15-day travel ban on Betsy Chavez.

Last Thursday, March 16, the judiciary placed Betsy Chavez under a 15-day travel ban after Congress requested the measure in connection with an ongoing investigation.

Chief Justice Juan Carlos Chekli declared the request valid prior to Chávez Chino’s constitutional accusation of being a co-author of “the alleged crime of insurrection and, alternatively, conspiracy against the state.”
