Congress President, Joseph Williamsin dialogue with RPP newspointed out that the Board of Directors had issued a resolution to suspend trips abroad by parliamentarians, even those already planned, under a state of emergency similar to the one we are currently experiencing due to the effects of Cyclone Yaku.
“The Board of Directors issued a document two days ago that stipulates that under the state of emergency Trips abroadeven if they are scheduled. Obviously, every situation has a certain analysis; but in general this is the situation,” he said.
The head of Congress pointed out that this provision arose “due to” the trip of congressmen Maria del Carmen Alva (AP), Wilson Soto (AP), Ernest Bustamante (FP) and Alex Paredes (BM) to Bahraincountry located in the Persian Gulf since March 7 last year.
According to a report from Republicthe reason for the trip is the participation of parliamentarians in the 146th Assembly inter-parliamentary union (I am PU). To do this, they would each receive US$4,080 in travel expenses from Parliament, totaling approximately S$62,000.
ABOUT, Williams Zapata He pointed out that the trip “was already planned”, but it allowed the second vice president of parliament and the board of directors to pass a resolution similar to the one that was issued.
“This is a matter for the second vice president and the board of directors. The second vice president is responsible for everything related to travel. These are trips in which our congressmen represent parliament in various forums, so they are planned over time (…) and there are agendas that have already been determined,” he said.
“What happened is a trip that was already planned in advance and when it was seen we were not in the situation we are in. But it allows us to make a decision and cut back (travel) while we are in this emergency,” he added.
They will demand from the Congressional committee a report on the work done and expenses.
Similarly, the President of Congress indicated that the Board of Directors would request a progress report commission follow-up to the recovery process in areas affected by the El Niño Costero phenomenon, chaired by Fujimori MP Cesar Revilla.
“The board of directors is going to ask this commission to tell us what conclusions it has come to. The weather is good, it is assumed that things have already moved forward and are preparing us for what may happen at the end of the year. which is the coast of Niño,” he said.
In this sense, he emphasized that the said working group is one of those responsible for presenting “solutions” regarding the current climate situation in the country.
“(This commission) has to present to the plenary and the public decisions as to what should be done in this case (…) The Board of Directors is going to ask them to keep us informed of their progress and how effective they are,” he said.
In addition, when asked about the alleged excessive costs incurred in hiring advisers that the commission would incur, Williams Zapata he said he was “obliged” to “find out” what had happened about it.
On the other hand, he pointed out that the authority for reconstruction, with modifications “it didn’t work” and that he is looking forward to the executive branch’s project to create an Infrastructure Authority as part of the current climate impact Cyclone Yaku.
“I had the opportunity to talk with the president and the prime minister and, of course,” Reconstruction with changes “did not work, they did work that does not correspond to reality. An appropriate investigation should be carried out on this matter,” he said.
“Now there is a project related to infrastructure. I believe that the infrastructure that must be implemented to withstand these disasters is very important and is related to basins, to rivers, to reservoirs. I understand that this new body that has to do with infrastructure, you have to decide what you could not do Reconstruction with changes”, he added.
