President of the Republic Dina Boluarte spoke after meeting of the Council of Ministers which took place in National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) to evaluate actions against intense rains that took place in different regions of the country. At the same time, he specified that a new housing voucher would be put forward to help the victims.
“We have taken the following measures: first, Accreditation of civil society leaders in municipalities. This is because this experience of Cyclone Yaku has shown that those people who have been trained in the municipalities to be able to deal with these kinds of emergencies with each new government change. And every drill done at Indeci was practically useless for the next presentation of emergencies,” he told the press.
“In second place, we have agreed to promote an additional social housing program for Techo Propiobecause we saw that several families were left homeless, and we must respond accordingly. Several areas south of Lima, as well as in southern Peru, have also been declared a state of emergency. The Ministry of Finance will provide the Ministry of Defense with a budget for the purchase of helicopters, because we do not have enough of them, plus a budget for the maintenance of the 24 helicopters that we have in the Armed Forces,” he added.
“We focused on COEN to see the development of Cyclone Yaku.”
The head of state mentioned that a meeting of the Council of Ministers was held at the COEN to be able to follow the development of Cyclone Yaku. In addition, he stressed that groups of ministers and deputy ministers had traveled to the most affected areas of Peru.
“Today we focused at COEN to see in situ with maps how the course of Cyclone Yaku developed across the national territory, and a team of ministers, vice ministers and other officials were present 24/7.. They traveled through various pools, streams, which were activated as a novelty in the Chosiki region,” he concluded.
