Last Saturday, the city of Puno Juli became a scene of violence reminiscent of others that have taken place since the failed coup d’état in Pedro Castillo.

The events came 24 hours after the President’s announcement of Punche Puno, a program aimed at stimulating the regional economy, improving public services and closing the social gaps that make Puno the region with the highest rates of anemia among children, for example. The violence began with the mobilization for the withdrawal of a military base located in this lake town in the south of the Puno region. The soldiers opened fire to disperse the attackers.

A little later, a group of vandals attacked the police station, which was set on fire. 17 soldiers were detained by protesters but were released after holding a dialogue in the Plaza de Armas with those who identified themselves as members of the peasant communities of the province of Chucuito. Fortunately, the violence left not dead, but wounded civilians, policemen and soldiers.

Ombudsman It is reported that ten civilians were injured, one of them – a shot from a firearm. During the night, a fire broke out at Julie’s court headquarters destroying court files, in particular on food demands from parents who ignore their children.

Violence and destruction of public institutions is unacceptable. Violence cannot be justified by any reason, and certainly not by demanding the resignation of the president. Dina Boluarte. Although this seems impossible under the current conditions, it is necessary to establish channels of communication with the protesters, and to isolate the vandals. What role can the Bishop of Julia, local officials play Ombudsman What about the officials of the Vice Minister of Territorial Administration?
