National Attorney Patricia Benavidez recently criticized a preliminary investigation launched by the National Council of Justice (JNJ) over alleged misconduct by members of a task force investigating white-collar cases.
In the video, the head of the public ministry described the autonomous constitutional body’s decision as “null”, “illegal” and “arbitrary”.
In this regard, Congresswoman Susel Paredes asked a question Benavidez Vargas for these “legal interpretations” and pointed out that, despite its status national prosecutorhas no “opportunity” to declare invalid investigation from JNJ.
“I will be strong, but I don’t want to understand what your training is in [la universidad] Alas Peruanas is the one who makes these legal interpretations because he does not have the right to invalidate the investigation of the National Council of Justice. She should present [a las investigaciones]”, Paredes said in News extension.
In this sense, Walls recalled that in August 2022 he requested National Council of Justice investigation against Benavidez Vargas in cases such as the removal of prosecutor Bersabet Revilla, who led the investigation against the judge Emma Benavidezsister of the head of parliament, for the alleged crimes of bribery and illegal conspiracy to commit a crime in the form of a criminal organization, as well as for the restructuring of the group of prosecutors handling the Los Cuellos Blancos del Puerto case.
“I have nothing against the lady, but as a lawyer I seek truth and justice; And, if I am looking for truth and justice, I need them to explain to me why such important changes have taken place, ”he clarified.
Demands to learn about the academic background of the National Prosecutor
Similar parliamentarian repeated that in this request he also demanded to know the degrees held by national prosecutorinformation that he says he has not yet received, for this reason he considered it important to know what PhD and doctoral dissertations are MP holder.
“I asked Suneda to give me a PhD and a doctoral dissertation at the prosecutor’s office, they didn’t give them to me because Suneda didn’t have them. Suneda asked the Ministry of Education; In the end, what did I do? I told JNJ to check the academic rigor of the national prosecutor,” he said.
“It worries me that we don’t have these theses in sight. If these theses were of good quality, I think the prosecutor would put them in PDF and put them out for all of us to read and not have a shadow of a doubt about the academic rigor of her training as a lawyer, ”she added.
