Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Alberto Otarola, assured that he would cooperate in the investigation of the alleged crime of genocide in connection with the deaths of people registered during the demonstrations in December and January. In this regard, he recalled that they mourned the death of the Peruvians during the protests, and also asked for the intervention of the prosecutor’s office.
“This is a closed investigation, I can’t say much, but I wanted to mention that the political person responsible for all these riots, including the deceased, I think, is at this time in () Barbadillo prison. You have to try to define the context well, the actors and the facts,” he said.
“It will probably be a long investigation, but we will cooperate as many times as it takes to find out the facts,” he added.

As he commented, the two issues discussed were the “arbitrary narratives” about Peru that were created in some foreign countries in addition to early elections.
“It is important here to keep the parties informed, but we are also going to call on the parties that are in the process of registration (…) The constant dialogue that we have with local authorities, unions and provincial and district Mayors will not stop trying to help in their investment projects and help them,” he said.
